How and with what paint do you paint MDF?
MDF is often used. It is easily workable and a hard-wearing material. You will find MDF in kitchen cabinets and even in bathrooms. One disadvantage of MDF is its dull brown colour, but in four steps, that dull colour can be painted over completely! Below you will find a step-by-step plan and some tips & tricks to get the painting job done.
Four steps to the desired colour!
- Degrease the surface with a degreaser and let it dry. Fill any holes and irregularities with an MDF filler. Then sand the entire surface with sandpaper. As a final step, dust the surface thoroughly with a soft brush.
- So that the surface you are painting would be nicely defined, you can cover the edges with tape.
- MDF tends to absorb a lot of paint. Therefore, apply a multi-primer in the corners and edges with a brush. Then paint the larger areas with a roller. Use the same technique as when painting an interior wall: Paint horizontally and vertically.
- You may choose what kind of paint or varnish to use for the final coat. However, it is important that you use two coats of the finishing coat. Again, keep enough time between the two coats. Lightly sand the first coat and then apply the second coat to give the MDF a nice finish.
